Grace in a Restaurant
On this Monday before Christmas, your “buy list” is likely too long already—so we’re taking a break from the weekly book review. Watch for next Monday’s annual list of 2008 book reviews. This week, here’s something for your encouragement:
Scooter and my brother, Paul, are golfing buddies in Santa Fe, N.M. Recently, Scooter, a retired businessman, shared this God-at-work true story with Paul. It went something like this.
“Will there be anything else?” the waitress asked Scooter and his dining companions.
“Well, yes,” answered Scooter. “When you go back to the kitchen to place our orders, my friends and I will pray a short prayer—thanking God for our food and His goodness to us. I’m wondering, could we also pray for you? Is there anything you’d like us to pray about?”
The waitress paused, not quite sure what to say. But then her sadness seeped out, “My son hasn’t called me in two years.”
“We’ll pray for you,” Scooter responded warmly. And so, in faith, he asked our Caring God to intervene.
Twenty minutes later, the waitress returned to their table. Her countenance communicated it all. “My son just called me!”
Merry Christmas.
